Posted on July 2, 2010
Warren Edward Buffett was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 30th, 1930. He is an American investor, and certainly one of the most successful investors in the world. In 2010, he was ranked third wealthiest person in the world. He is also the primary shareholder, chairman and CEO of Berksire Hathaway.
Warren Buffett has always showed and displayed an interest in making and saving money. As a child, he went door to door selling chewing gum, Coca Cola or magazines.
After his studies at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Warren Buffett enrolled at Columbia Business School after learning that Benjamin Graham and David Dodd, two well-known securities analysts, taught there, where he received a Master of Science in Economics from Columbia Business School in 1951. He also attended the New-York Institute of Finance.
Since the very beginning of his career, Warren Buffett has always been willing to be an investor, and was looking for purchases and partnerships that would be the best for him. As a result, at age 22, Warren Buffett’s salary was $ 12,000. That’s when he accepted a job at Benjamin’s Graham’s partnership. This salary’s equivalent to 2008 dollars would be approximately $97,000. And at age 26, his personal savings were over $174,000, or $1.2 million inflation adjusted to 2009 dollars.
In 1962, because of his partnerships, Warren Buffett became a millionaire and had an excess of $7,178,500 of which over $1,025,000 belonged to him. And in 1970, as a chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, who was making a annual salary of $50,000, had an outside investment income and his net worth reached $620 million, placing him on the Forbes 400 for the first time.
About his personal life, Warren Buffett has always been very discreet. He got married to Susan Thompson in 1952 and had three children together. But the couple began living separately in 1977 when Susan decided to pursue her singing career. She is also the one who arranged for Warren and her today’s wife Astrid Menks to meet before she left Omaha. They kept a very close relationship together.
